My Personal Garden
My garden is a constant work in progress, currently being adapted to accommodate my two-year-old grandson.
Including fencing around a flat roof, adding wooden steps and a gate, putting down hard wearing floor covering, and turning it into a safe area for my grandson to have messy play and to practice riding his bike, scooter and have fun with his outside toys.
Over the 25 years that I have owned my property, the garden has taken many different shapes and looks.
A recent major revamp included the rebuild of an outbuilding and consequential landscape adjustments in the garden, creating it’s current look.
I have made it very low maintenance, using shrubs, perennials, self-seeding annuals, a wild lawn area with bulbs and seeds, native species hedge, grasses and structural plants.
There are apple trees, a fig tree, passionfruit, strawberries, raspberries, salads and herbs growing in repurposed kitchen equipment, such as a cast iron kettle, Denby teapots ,and old ornamental bird cages.
A multipurpose open fronted garden building with decking, and fronted with an ornamental trellis arch, in the top part of my garden is used for everything from dining, a day bed, a playroom, and a potting shed, and is now becoming a large surface for climbing roses, Jasmine, and passion fruits.
Around the garden I have placed attractive seating in the sunny spots, positioned to take advantage of the different views.
The family, the cat and myself all enjoy it’s sheltered aspect – being out of the wind and in the sun, all year round.
